ショパンの功績・生涯・エピソード

フレデリック・フランソワ・ショパンは、フランス系ポーランド人の父ニコラと、元ポーランド貴族の娘だった母ユスティナの2番目の子供としてワルシャワに生まれる。戦争中の外敵からの圧迫から逃れるため20歳頃に、フランスへ移住。しばらくは貧困や失恋で孤独化し、結核にも侵されるがジョルジュ サンドとの恋愛により約10年間はもっとも成熟した作曲活動を行うことができた。ポーランドの前期ロマン派音楽を代表する作曲家であるが、当時のヨーロッパにおいてもショパンは、ピアニストとして、また作曲家として有名であった。作曲のほとんどをピアノ独奏曲が占め、ピアノの詩人とも呼ばれるように、様々な形式、美しい旋律、半音階的和声法などによってピアノの表現様式を拡大し、ピアノ音楽の新しい地平を切り開いた。幼少期からピアノを習い，8歳で公開演奏会を開く。J.S.バッハとモーツァルトの音楽はショパンの音楽観に深い影響を与えた。病とその死因は明らかになっていないが39歳の時にパリのアパートで息をひきとった。1988年からポーランドで発行されていた5000ズウォティ紙幣にショパンの肖像が使用されていた。また、2010年にもショパンの肖像を使用した20ズウォティの記念紙幣が発行されている。
