【深層心理を研究性衝動概念から脱却】
スイスの牧師の子に生まれたユングは、バーゼル大学で医学を学び、精神科医になった。フロイトの精神分析に触発され、ともに渡米。国際精神分析学会の設立に加わり、会長も務めた。
ユングは38歳でフロイトと袂を分かつ。フロイトが性的衝動のエネルギーとしたリピドーの概念を、ユングは広く精神的エネルギーととらえ、神経症の本質を「環境との不適応」であるとした。フロイトの精神分析が個人の無意識を分析したのに対し、ユングは人類共通の「集合的無意識」の分析も加えた。また、人間の性格を、内向、外向の2種類に分類したうえで分析を行い、「分析心理学」を創始した。
ユングの神経症治療の特徴は、治療者主導ではなく、患者自身の力を軸にしたもの。患者の深層に眠る無意識の創造性を重視した治療は、のちの臨床心理学発展に大きく貢献した。
ユングは、59歳で国際医学的心理療法学会会長に就任。「意識の心理学」「心理学的累計」などの著書を残した。
