【アリストテレスの略歴】
中世に影響を与えた「万学の祖」。ソクラテス、プラトンとともに、西洋最大の哲学者の一人とされる。アリストテレスは、マケドニアの侍医の子として生まれた。17歳でアテネに出てアカデメイアでプラトンに師事した。プラトンの死後は、マケドニアのフィリッポス2世に招かれ、アレクサンドロス大王の教育係を務めた。49歳の時、アテネに戻り、リュケイオンという学園を開設した。哲学では、プラトンのイデア論をさらに発展させたほか、政治、倫理、歴史、経済、心理、論理、美学、生物と、諸学の研究・思索を進め、古代学問の集大成を行った。「形而上学」「政治学」「アテナイの人の国制」など、多数の著作を残し、イスラーム哲学や中世ヨーロッパの神学に大きな影響を与え、「万学の祖」と呼ばれた。「人間は政治的（社会的）動物である」の名言を残す。

【アリストテレスの思想】
思想についての著作が550巻あったとされる。1/3が現存している。「論理学」があらゆる学問成果を手に入れるための「道具」であると位置づけ。学問体系を「理論」「実践」「制作」に分け、さらに、理論学を「自然学」「形而上学」実践学を「政治学」「倫理学」制作学を「詩学」に分類した。《自然学》物理学、天文学、気象学、動物学、植物学等《第一哲学》存在しているということを問題として、その根本原理を研究するという学問《政治学》人間は政治的生物であると定義、共同できないものは獣である《倫理学》人間の営為にはすべて目的があり、目的の最上位には、それ自身が目的である「最高善」がある《詩学》文学理論についての著作、悲劇を抒情詩や叙事詩などより上の最高形態に位置づけている《中庸[ちゅうよう]》アリストテレスの倫理学における、徳の一つ
